LaFox activist challenging Kane County Board member
By Lisa Smith
A LaFox community activist and small business owner plans to challenge Kane County board member Jan Carlson.
Drew Frasz, 50, announced Wednesday he will begin circulating nominating petitions for the 26th District
seat held by Carlson since 1996.
Frasz is vice president of the LaFox civic Organization, the grassroots group that worked alongside developers
on the massive Settlements of LaFox development to be built west of Geneva. Frasz said his experience bringing
developers and residents together would be an asset to the county board.
"These rural areas and small communities are going to have a lot of challenges over the next decade," he said.
"I can see both sides of the table. I have a proven track record of coming up with unique solutions."
Both Carlson and Frasz are Republicans. The primary election is Feb. 5.
Carlson announced earlier this month he will seek another 4-year term. Prior to his election to the county
board, the Elburn resident served as circuit court clerk for 32 years.
A lifelong Kane County resident, Frasz is a political neophyte who has lived in LaFox since 1983. He and his
wife have two children.
In 1978 Frasz started a landscaping and excavating business called A.E. Frasz Inc. Before that he spent 10 years
as a firefighter in Geneva and Aurora.
The 26th District covers Kaneville, Blackberry and Big Rock townships, and parts of Sugar Grove, Campton and
Virgil townships.
Candidates can start circulating nominating petitions Aug. 7. The filing deadline is Nov. 5.
